Last week I finally got why people use layers in their digital art portfolios
I've been posting single images to my portfolio for like 3 years now. Saw a guy on the artstation critique forum show his piece with the sketch layer, then the color block layer, then the final. Made me realize I've been hiding all the interesting stuff. Has anyone else changed how they present their work after seeing someone else's setup?

Frank's portfolio with the 3 video layers last month made me restructure my entire Behance profile overnight.

Saw a thread on Twitter where a pro concept artist showed her whole process - sketch, grayscale, color pass, then final. She said clients like seeing the messy middle because it shows you know how to fix problems. I tried it with my last character piece and put the layer breakdown as a GIF on my portfolio page. Got a message from a studio asking about my workflow which never happened before. Makes sense when you think about it - anyone can render a pretty picture but showing the bones proves you actually know what you're doing.
