Rant: someone at the con told me my EVA foam armor looked like 'craft store cosplay' and I'm still mad about it 4 months later

They said it right after I spent 20 hours heat-forming and sealing that chest piece with three coats of Plasti Dip, so has anyone else dealt with gatekeepers who crap on foam builds when you know your seams are tighter than their social skills?

Crack a smile and tell them yeah, my seams might be tight but my wallet sure isn't after buying all that Plasti Dip. Those gatekeepers forget that foam armor is basically just hot-glued cardboard with better marketing. I'd rather have a wobbly EVA pauldron and a good time than be the guy who spends more time judging others than improving his own build.

Exactly what I found when I switched from worrying about perfect seams to just building stuff... my first helmet was a total mess with gaps everywhere but I wore it to a con and had a blast. People kept asking how I did the weathering and didn't even notice the crooked parts. Focus on the fun parts like painting and adding battle damage instead of stressing over every hot glue bump. Those little imperfections actually make it look more real in photos anyway.
