That foam clay 'pro' at the con booth made me rethink my whole armor process
I was at the Austin fan expo in March and overheard this guy telling people to only use foam clay for details because it 'cracks when you sand it'. I've been using the stuff for 4 years on my helmets and never had that issue, but he had like a 50 person crowd so I figured maybe I was doing something wrong. Tried his method on a spare pauldron piece this weekend and yeah, it peeled right off. Stick with what works, I guess, but has anyone else had foam clay fail on them after sanding?

Did you use a heat gun on it first before sanding, that fixes the peel problem every time?

The heat gun trick is a total game changer, I swear by it now. Caught that tip a few years back after ruining a whole door panel, and it's never failed me since. Just a few passes on low, let it warm up for a minute, and the old stuff basically falls off in strips. Way better than fighting it with a scraper and praying you don't gouge the wood underneath.
