Tried using craft foam for a full Mandalorian helmet and learned a hard lesson about heat guns

I spent two weekends shaping a foam helmet for a Mando costume, thinking it would save me money over 3D printing. Hit it with my heat gun to smooth out a wrinkle, and the whole thing just collapsed into a sad lump in 10 seconds flat. Turns out craft foam melts way faster than EVA foam if you don't keep the gun moving constantly. I had to start over from scratch with a $15 roll of EVA instead. Has anyone else wrecked a project by using the wrong foam type?

Three eggs and a half cup of pancake mix later and I ended up with a foam helmet that looked like it had been through a car wash. I was trying to make a star destroyer out of pancake batter but my phone buzzed and I forgot the pan was still on the stove. Now there's this weird plastic-y hockey puck sitting in my kitchen that smells like syrup and burnt shame. Honestly your EVA helmet sounds way cooler than my crispy polygon disaster. At least you can say you accidentally made space food. I just made a science experiment that tastes like regret.
