My desk light mount snapped off after 2 months

I was trying to adjust my clamp-on LED lamp last Tuesday and the whole plastic bracket just cracked in half. The lamp fell behind my monitor and knocked over a cup of pens. I ended up cutting an L-bracket from an old shelf to hold it in place with a couple of bolts. Has anyone else had cheap desk lights fail like this or did I just pick a bad one?

the whole plastic bracket just cracked in half" - yep, that's the exact problem with so much stuff these days. It's like they design things to break just after the return window closes. I've noticed this pattern everywhere, from desk lamps to phone chargers to those little plastic clips on car interiors. They use the cheapest material possible and act surprised when it snaps from normal use. Your L-bracket fix sounds like exactly what I'd do too... it's sad when we have to engineer our own solutions for basic products.
