Just realized I've been painting trim wrong my whole life after a neighbor in Phoenix called me out

I always painted baseboards and window trim by taping everything off with blue tape and going slow. My neighbor Joe, who restores old houses, walked over and asked why I was wasting time. He said to just cut in with a good brush and a steady hand, no tape at all. I thought he was nuts, but I tried it on my living room trim last Saturday. It took me half the time and the lines were actually cleaner than my tape jobs. Now I only use tape for really complex spots like crown molding corners. Has anyone else had a simple trick like that totally change how they do a project?

Yo wait really? I always thought taping was the only way too until my cousin showed me how to cut in freehand and I felt like such an idiot for all those years of wasting tape and time. Now I only tape if Im doing something super detailed or if the paint is really glossy.
