My bathroom tile job turned into a three day puzzle

I decided to redo the floor in my small bathroom, thinking it would be a weekend job. The problem was the old, weirdly shaped corner by the toilet where the previous owner had cut tiles into a jagged mess. I spent a full day just trying to figure out the pattern and make the cuts line up. My partner walked in on day three and said, 'You know that's just going under the toilet, right?' I had spent over 20 hours on a 2 square foot section. Has anyone else gotten weirdly stuck on a tiny, hidden part of a project?

Disagree completely, that hidden work is what separates a real job from a hack job. You build your skill on the parts nobody sees, and it shows in the final feel of the room. Your partner just doesn't get craftsmanship.

Oh man, this is so real. It's like our brains get stuck on making the hidden parts perfect, maybe because we know it's wrong even if no one else does. I see this everywhere, from people rewriting a text message ten times to cleaning behind the fridge before a party. Why do we burn so much energy on stuff that literally doesn't matter to the final result?
