Just realized I've been soldering way too hot for 10 years
I was reading a thread on a guitar amp forum and someone mentioned that most people crank their irons to 750F without needing to. Checked my station with a thermometer and it was pushing 800F while I was melting pads on a fuzz face build. Anyone else find out they've been cooking their components way hotter than necessary?

800F huh... that's cute. I ran my Weller station at 850F for six years straight because I thought the tip was supposed to sizzle when you touched the solder... turns out I was basically annealing every joint before I even got the component seated.

Wait, isn't annealing with heat not just from the iron?
