The cashier at Dollar Tree asked why I bought 6 pool noodles in January and it changed my whole setup
Last month I was at the Dollar Tree on Biscayne checking out with six pool noodles and a pack of zip ties, and the cashier just laughed and asked if I was building a raft. I told her they were for my garage, because I use them to store my extension cords and garden hoses. She said her husband does the same thing but cuts them down the middle first so they clip right onto the wall instead of having to thread the cord through. I tried her way the next weekend and it took me maybe 20 minutes to mount eight of them with 3M strips I already had. Now all my cords hang labeled and I can grab one without unspooling the whole mess. Has anyone tried the sliced noodle trick with bungee cords, or do they pop out of the slit when you pull?
My garage looks like a spider died in there and nobody cleaned it up, so believe me when I say I am the last person who should be giving storage advice. But I did try the sliced noodle thing with bungee cords and yeah, they will work their way out of the slit if you yank hard, though it depends on how tight you cut it. What worked better for me was cutting the slit a little narrower than the cord so it kind of hugs it, and mounting the noodle so the slit faces up instead of sideways. The hook ends are what really cause trouble since they catch on the foam and tear it up over time. Maybe cut a small notch at each end for the hooks to sit in and you'll get way more life out of the thing.
