Just finished a ceiling patch that took me three days to get right

It was a small repair, maybe 2 feet by 3 feet, but the old plaster around it was so crumbly. Every time I tried to tape the seam, it just cracked again (super annoying, you know?). I must have mixed and applied mud five separate times before I got a solid base. Ended up using a bunch of mesh tape and a slow-setting compound to finally lock it down. Has anyone else had a simple job turn into a multi-day fight with an old building?

My old apartment had plaster like that. I used to think patching was easy until I spent a whole weekend on a hole the size of my hand.

Feel your pain on that one. Old plaster has a mind of its own sometimes. Glad you finally beat it.
