Just realized my new 12-inch taping knife has a slight warp after finishing a ceiling in Tempe
The last coat looked like a washboard, had to sand for an extra hour. Anyone know a good brand that holds its shape better?

That warp is definitely a manufacturing flaw, not the heat. I bought a Marshalltown knife last year that came out of the box with a curve you could see across the room. Their quality control has been slipping for a while now. Even a perfectly stored tool shouldn't fail on the first ceiling. You just got a bad piece of steel. What brand was it?

Yeah I saw a video last week where a guy tested a bunch of brands after leaving them in a hot car. Some of the cheaper ones warped just like that, even new. @clairethompson might be onto something with the heat, but a good knife shouldn't do that from one day's work. The steel quality is the real problem.

A warp that bad after one job sounds more like a storage or shipping issue. Most decent knives from the big box stores can handle a ceiling without turning into a banana. Did you leave it in the truck? The Arizona heat will wreck tools fast.
