Warning: I paid $1,200 for a 'vintage' guitar at an estate sale and it sat unplayable in my closet for 14 months
Saw a dusty acoustic at an estate sale in Tacoma last spring and the guy swore it was from the 60s, so I dropped $1,200 without even plugging it in. Got it home, strummed it once, and the neck was so warped it buzzed on every fret. I told myself I'd get it fixed 'next month' and it sat in my closet for 14 months while I kept finding other stuff to burn cash on. Finally hauled it to a repair guy in Bremerton who charged me $180 just to tell me the neck reset would run another $600, which is more than the guitar was worth. Ended up selling it for $350 to a guy who wanted the tuners. Has anyone else bought something 'collectible' and just let it rot in a closet instead of dealing with it?
