I just read that a can of tomato soup has more sugar than a glazed donut

Found this out on a food facts website last night while looking up a quick dinner idea. It said the average can of condensed tomato soup has about 20 grams of sugar, and a glazed donut from a big chain has about 12. I was making my go-to 'dump soup, add milk, heat' dinner and it kind of blew my mind. I guess I never thought of soup as a sweet thing. Has anyone else found a weird fact about a simple ingredient that made you pause?

My grandma's tomato soup recipe calls for a pinch of sugar to cut the acid, but I guess the can just uses a whole fistful. Next thing you know, they'll be telling us a bowl of bran flakes has more salt than a bag of pretzels. I'm starting to think the "healthy" side of the grocery store is a total con. Might as well just have the donut and call it a day.

Grandma's recipes always hit different because they use real ingredients. The sugar in canned soup is a bit much, but it's not exactly a secret they add it. Bran flakes having more salt than pretzels sounds wild, but maybe check the serving sizes first. The "healthy" aisle can be misleading, but it's not all a scam. Just reading labels helps a lot, you know? A donut is still a donut, and soup is still soup.
