My mother in law swore by frozen veggie burgers for quick dinners

She told me last year that I should just keep a box of frozen veggie burgers around for nights when I have zero energy to cook. I rolled my eyes because I figured they'd taste like cardboard. But last Tuesday I was desperate after three kids had activities running late and I grabbed a box at the store. Threw them in the air fryer for 8 minutes, toasted some buns, and slapped on lettuce and tomato. The whole thing took maybe 12 minutes and everyone actually ate them without complaining. So now I keep two boxes in the freezer at all times. Has anyone found a specific brand that holds up better in the air fryer than others?

Wait, have you tried the Dr. Praeger's ones? They're a little pricier but they actually get crispy in the air fryer without falling apart. The black bean kind holds together way better than the kale ones though, learned that the hard way. Morningstar is okay but they're kinda mushy in the middle no matter how long you cook em. Honestly just stick with anything that lists beans as the first ingredient and you'll be good.

Gonna have to disagree hard about Dr. Praeger's, they always turn out dry and crumbly in my air fryer no matter what I do. The whole "beans first ingredient" thing is overrated too, I'd rather have a mushy middle than a veggie burger that falls apart on the bun. Maybe you just got lucky with your first box, but I've been burned too many times to rely on frozen patties for anything but a backup plan.
