Encountering regenerative drives in new builds is shifting my daily routine

I've seen a change in new buildings here putting in elevators with regenerative drives. They save power by sending energy back on the down trip. I first worked on one at a new condo last week. The unit had a warning light, and I thought it was a bad part. But after I used my meter, I found the energy save mode was not right. I had to set the drive controller again, using an online manual. This made me see our job is moving beyond just fixing parts. I want to know if you all are dealing with this too.

Notice you had to use an online manual to fix that controller setting. Are you finding you need way more software or network skills now than even five years ago? Like, last month I got called for an elevator fault that was just a corrupted software update, not a broken part at all. Does it feel like half the job is becoming IT work, chasing down bad code or wrong settings instead of swapping out physical components?

Ever run into cases where the company doesn't even give you training on the software side? Makes you wonder if they expect us to just figure it all out on our own time.
