inHot take: Modern boiler codes have us overthinking every seam
That line about trusting our eyes hits hard. You're right that some of the feel for the work gets lost when everything is a printout. Does following the book ever make you feel less like a craftsman?

inOld repair habits were better for the earth
Seeing repair shops keep old parts is awesome, lol. I fixed a cassette player last year using bits from a junked boom box, and it works perfectly. @uma_west76 is right about new stuff being cheap, but once you see how reliable old parts can be, it clicks.

inUpdate: Our CAD license server crashed during a deadline rush
Yeah, the raincoat thing is the perfect way to put it. I mean with tech, you can't just hope the main server works. You gotta have the backup file server already set up and tested, or a couple offline licenses ready to go. It's like knowing a storm might hit and already having the generator in the garage. Otherwise you're just standing there getting soaked, yelling at the sky.

inJust realized my cheap glove choice was tearing up my hands every weld
Glad you found something that works, but I've had issues with leather gloves too. They can get stiff and crack over time, especially in heat. I switched to a mix of kevlar and cotton layers instead. It gives better control and lasts longer under sparks. The key is having the right protection without losing movement. Sometimes the extra weight of leather just isn't worth it.
