I finally stopped using my old hoof stand for big drafts

For years I'd wrestle with a standard stand on Percherons, but last month a client's Belgian almost tipped it over and my back was sore for three days. I switched to a low-profile, wide-base stand from a catalog and the difference in stability and my posture is night and day. What's your go-to method or tool for keeping those giant feet still without throwing out your shoulder?

Saw a video last year from a farrier in Kentucky who uses a modified engine hoist for the real giants. He welded a custom foot cradle onto it. My back hurt just watching him lift those old stands. Your wide base idea sounds way more practical for most shops. That rubber matting trick is smart, slick concrete is the worst.

Nice! That wide base is a total game changer for drafts. I even added some rubber matting to the bottom of mine for extra grip on slick floors. Makes the whole job feel way less like a wrestling match.
