Ripped a dress pattern 3 times before I realized my fabric scissors were dull

I spent my whole Saturday cutting muslin for a new wrap dress design, and every single piece came out jagged. Finally swapped to my backup shears after the third attempt, and the difference was night and day - smooth edges in half the time. Anyone else have a tool that was secretly ruining their projects without them noticing?

Disagree a little bit here. In my experience, a dull blade might make you press harder and mess up your cut, but it usually shows up right away with fuzzy edges or skipped threads. Three whole rips before checking the scissors feels like the fabric was shifting or the pattern pieces weren't laid out right on the grain. I've had scissors I thought were dull that just needed a good cleaning and oiling, not replacement. Also, muslin can be surprisingly grabby if you're using a slippery brand or your cutting mat is worn out. Your mileage may vary but I'd double check your cutting surface and how you're pinning before blaming the shears completely.
