Rant: I was salting my pasta water WRONG for years

I always followed the whole 'salty like the sea' thing and dumped in like a tablespoon per pot. Last week my friend from Italy watched me cook and literally laughed. She said I was wasting salt because most of it goes down the drain and you only need enough to season the pasta itself, not the whole ocean. Tried it her way with just a teaspoon and guess what? Tasted exactly the same. Has anyone else realized they were overdoing some kitchen rule for no reason?

Cut the crap on tutorial hell - how I stopped copying code after 7 months of YouTube

I used to follow along with every Python tutorial line by line, pausing the video to type exactly what the guy had. Last Tuesday I finally tried writing a to-do list app from scratch without any guide and it took me 3 hours but I actually understood why each function worked. Has anyone else just ripped off the training wheels and seen their skills jump way faster?

PSA: Don't buy those cheap $15 dryer vent cleaning kits from the hardware store

I spent 2 hours using one of those brush kits last weekend and it just pushed all the lint deeper into the wall, probably clogged it worse than before who knows how much that'll cost me for a professional fix.

Figured out a way to clear a clogged intake screen without pulling the whole assembly up on my 12-inch cutter in Muskoka last month

I was fed up with losing an hour each time so I tried hooking a pressure washer wand to a long pole and blasting it from the surface and it cleared the screen in under 5 minutes, has anyone else tried something like that on a deeper rig?

A client told me my estimates were too vague and it forced me to get specific

I used to write agency proposals like "we'll handle your SEO for $1500 a month" and just leave it at that. Real vague, real broad. Then a client in Austin asked me point blank what exactly they were getting for that money, and I had nothing good to say. They picked another agency that itemized everything down to the backlink count. So I went back and broke my process into phases: 8 hours of keyword research, 5 new blog posts, 3 technical audits a quarter. Now every proposal has a clear breakdown and my close rate went up 40% after I made that shift. Has anyone else had a client call them out on something that forced a real change in how you pitch?

Just realized my boss was right about dual-zone panels

My boss told me six months ago to stop using single-zone panels on residential jobs, but I kept doing it to save time on wiring. Last Tuesday in Phoenix I had a false alarm from a motion detector that triggered the whole system, and the customer was furious. Has anyone else found that dual-zone panels are worth the extra install time?

Chat with an old timer about ladder angles changed my whole setup

Ran into a guy named Jerry at the fuel dock last week, been dredging since the 70s. He said I was running my ladder too steep and losing material off the sides, showed me how a flatter angle keeps more in the cut. I dropped it 4 degrees on my next shift and picked up almost 15% more per load. Anyone else had someone point out something obvious you'd been missing for years?
