Sewed a dress with the wrong fabric and it turned into a disaster

Last month I made a summer dress using cotton voile for the lining AND the outer layer. Thought it would be light and breezy but the thing just sagged everywhere after 2 wears. The waist seam rolled like crazy and the hem puckered bad. I learned the hard way that voile needs a sturdier outer fabric like a poplin or lawn. Has anyone else ruined a project by picking the wrong fabric weight?

Absolutely, picking the wrong fabric is like buying cheap tires and wondering why the car handles poorly.

Oh man, oh man, that Nathan guy nailed it with the tire comparison! It's so true how we think fabric is just fabric until we mess up a whole project. I did something similar once with a rayon challis - thought it would drape beautifully for a blouse but it stretched out so bad in the wash I could've used it as a tent. The thing is, the wrong weight just throws off everything - the seams don't sit right, the structure falls apart, and you end up with something that looks like a sad rag instead of a dress. It's like trying to build a house with cardboard instead of wood, you know? The whole foundation is just wrong from the start.
