Bought a fancy airlock system for my crocks and it was a total bust

I spent about $80 on this set of silicone airlocks that promised 'perfect fermentation every time'. In my experience, they just clogged up with kraut brine after a couple days and stopped bubbling, which made me nervous about pressure. I went back to my old simple water airlocks and haven't had a single issue since. Has anyone else had problems with those more complex airlock designs?

Those silicone ones look cool but they're a trap. Saw a video where someone cut one open after a failed ferment. The little valve channels get packed with tiny bits of vegetable matter. Basically turns into a solid plug. My grandma's old crock with the water moat never fails because it's just physics. Brine can't clog an open channel.

Honestly my buddy's blog tested six airlock types and those silicone ones failed every time.
