Old timer told me to wet-sand engineered hardwood once. That was a bad call.

Was doing a job for a customer in Columbus, about 6 months ago. An experienced guy, been doing floors since the 80s, said to always wet-sand engineered wood to keep the dust down. Tried it on a small section. Ruined about 20 square feet of it. The water seeped into the seams and caused the layers to separate. Had to pull it all up and replace it. Has anyone else gotten outdated advice from someone with decades in the game that just doesn't apply anymore?

Did you see any warning signs while you were sanding before the damage showed up?

The dust did look a little glittery at first but I figured it was just the clear coat or something. I didn't realize that meant the wood itself was already getting burned until it was too late.
