Everyone says to use a heat gun to open tight peony buds, but mine just wilted after 30 seconds on low.
It took me three hours of misting and a cool dark room to finally get them to open without damage, so what's the real trick for stubborn varieties?

Wait, you put a heat gun on actual flowers? I mean I've heard of using warm water but that sounds like you're trying to dry them out on purpose. Maybe it's just me but I'd be scared to even try that.

Yeah the "dry them out on purpose" part is actually the goal sometimes. A quick blast can set the shape before they wilt, like pressing pause on how they look right then. It's a gamble but it works on sturdy blooms if you don't mind a few crispy edges.
