Peony stems kept snapping on me until I switched up how I handle them

I was getting so frustrated with peonies breaking right before deliveries, lol. Turns out, I was cutting them too short and not giving enough support in the vase. Now I leave extra stem and use a grid of tape at the top to hold them in place. It's been a game changer for my spring weddings. Anyone have other tricks for delicate flowers like this?

Had a similar issue with ranunculus last season. Started dipping the stems in boiling water for a few seconds before putting them in the vase. Sounds crazy, but it seals the ends and they last way longer. The tape trick is good for support, but the hot water bath stops the snapping from happening in the first place.

Why boil? A clean cut in cool water does the trick.

Ranunculus stems are hollow and super fragile. The_alex is right that a quick boil seals them better than cool water.
