Bought a cheap knock-off pouring shank and it cost me a whole heat

I was setting up for a run of small bronze parts last month and needed a new pouring shank. Saw one online for half the price of our usual supplier, thought I was being smart. It showed up looking okay, but the first time we got it hot, the weld on the handle bracket gave out completely. Molten metal went everywhere, luckily no one was hurt but we lost the whole furnace load, about 80 pounds of good bronze. Had to shut down, clean the pit, and start over. That 'deal' cost me over $400 in lost material and two hours of downtime. Now I only buy from the guys we trust. Anyone have a supplier for pouring tools that hasn't let them down?

See this same thing with cheap kitchen gear blowing up mid rush.

Man that's the worst. It's like buying the cheap version of anything that matters. Got a buddy who bought discount brake pads once, warped his rotors in a month. My dad always said the cheap tool costs you twice, once when you buy it and again when it fails. Your story is just the industrial version of that old rule.
