Ugh that's the worst. My buddy's mixer did the same thing right when we were finishing his patio slab. Just locked up and started smoking.

What kind of concrete were you mixing? I had a motor burn out on me last year trying to mix a big batch of high-strength stuff with fiber mesh in it. The old motor just couldn't handle the extra load and cooked itself.
