Serious question, how do you deal with slag sticking to the furnace wall?

I always scraped it off cold, which was a chore. Now I tap it with a rod when it's still warm, and it flakes right off.

Warm tapping never stuck for me, it just spread the slag around. I wait until it's stone cold, then hit it with a heavy hammer. The thermal shock makes it pop off in sheets. Saves a ton of time over picking at it.

My 3-pound sledge on cold metal is my go-to move. It pops the slag off in one solid piece every time. No messing around with warm tapping anymore, lol. Saves so much cleanup time.

My granddad used to whack hot rivets with a regular claw hammer, left little metal shavings all over the shop floor. Drove my grandma nuts finding those sharp bits in her shoes days later. Makes your single clean piece sound like a way better system, less chance of drawing blood later. He never did change his ways, just swept up the mess and did it again next time.
