I know everyone says to buy whole chickens, but I found a cheaper way to get the same amount of meat.

After tracking prices for 3 months, I found buying a pack of 10 chicken leg quarters for $5.99 at my local Food Giant and roasting them all at once gives me more usable meat per dollar than a whole bird, because there's less waste from bones I won't use for stock.

My buddy Dave got really into that whole chicken math thing for a while. He was bragging about his stockpot like it was a new car. Then his freezer died and he had to cook eight pounds of backs and necks in July. The look on his face was pretty close to a crime scene photo. He buys leg quarters now too.

Yeah, that "look on his face" part is the whole lesson right there. Been there with a freezer full of fish. The trick is to cook it all outside if you can, even if it's just a propane burner on the patio. Boiling that much stock indoors in July will steam the paint off your walls. Leg quarters are smarter, you can at least grill those when things go wrong.
