I thought those huge bags of frozen vegetables were a total waste of space until I started using them to bulk up every soup and stir fry, which cut my weekly grocery bill in Chicago by almost $20.

My roommate kept buying the giant 5-pound bags of mixed veggies from the discount freezer aisle, and after seeing how a single handful could turn a basic can of beans and broth into a full meal for two, I'm now a total convert who wants to know what other cheap fillers people are using to stretch their food.

Wait, you cut your bill by $20 a week just from frozen veggies? That's wild... I need to check my freezer section again because I'm definitely not saving that much.

My own Aldi haul last month had three of those big veggie bags for under ten bucks total. They lasted me almost three weeks by adding them to pasta sauce and rice bowls. It's a total game changer for making cheap staples feel like a real meal.
