Spent a full day figuring out why my new smart plug kept dropping offline

I got this new smart plug last month and it kept disconnecting from my Wi-Fi every few hours. I spent like eight hours total resetting my router, moving it closer, and checking all the app settings. Turns out the plug just didn't play nice with my mesh network's 5GHz band, and I had to force my phone to connect to the 2.4GHz network during setup, which the instructions buried in a footnote. Has anyone else had to do this weird workaround with their smart home stuff?

Ugh, that's so common it's basically the standard now. I mean, most smart home gadgets only work on the old 2.4GHz band, but they never make that clear. It's always some hidden step that wastes your whole day.
