Tired of reviewing earbuds that sound hollow? Check the seal first

I kept reading all these reviews trashing budget earbuds for having no bass or thin sound. After testing about 15 pairs over the last 3 months, I realized most people just aren't putting them in right. A reviewer on YouTube last week complained his $30 Anker buds sounded flat, but when I tried the same pair, I had to push them deeper and twist a bit. The manual literally says to do that but nobody reads it. On Amazon, half the 1-star reviews for cheap earbuds are probably just fit issues. If you don't get a good seal, you lose all the low end and the noise isolation falls apart too. Next time you test a pair, try swapping the tip sizes and making sure they lock in your ear before you judge them. Has anyone else tried switching tips on a pair you already wrote off?

Swapping to foam tips fixed a pair I almost threw in the trash last month.

My buddy Mike had the same thing happen with his new wireless earbuds. He was about to return them because the bass sounded hollow and they kept falling out when he went for a jog. Then his little sister, who's into all that audio gear stuff, tossed him a pair of Comply foam tips from her stash. He slapped them on and called me an hour later to rave about how the seal was so tight he could hear the guitar pick scraping on strings. Now he won't shut up about foam tips every time someone mentions earbuds.
