Just realized my childhood rock hunts with my sister shaped our bond
Back then, we'd spend hours hunting for quartz in creek beds. Now, she's a geologist and I still keep my favorite find on my desk.

Actually, dust can be a real problem for some minerals. I've had a few specimens with a soft, chalky surface that gets damaged if you wipe it. For those, I use a soft makeup brush to clean them off without any rubbing.
