Just realized the new quarry near my town is pulling from a formation that's only 50 feet thick.

Heard a guy at the diner say they'll hit the bottom in under a year, which means all that specific sandstone will be gone for good.

That seems like a pretty short timeline. Maybe the formation runs deeper than they think.

Wait, hold on. That timeline actually sounds about right. Some of these old mines go down hundreds of feet in just a few years of digging. I saw one where they hit a major vein at 80 feet, and within eighteen months they'd blasted and dug down past 300. The rock gets harder the deeper you go, but when there's money to be made, they find a way.
