My first try at a 12-inch vase took three days to get right
I was trying to make a simple vase for a friend's wedding gift, but I kept cracking the neck when I went to flare the rim. I must have gone through fifteen pounds of clear boro before I realized my glory hole was about 150 degrees too hot. Has anyone else had a piece just fight them for that long over something simple?

Heard that glory hole temp is a classic vase killer.

Totally agree, it's brutal. That sudden heat shock from the kiln can make even thick glass crack straight down the side. I've seen it happen with some really nice pieces, just ruins them.

Yeah, "classic vase killer" is right. It's like the kiln just decides to have a really bad day and takes your hard work with it.
