Finally got the fit right on that stubborn 1911 slide

Was stuck between filing the rails or lapping them, went with a 600 grit lapping compound and a lot of elbow grease. Took about two hours, but the action is glass now. Anyone have a better method for smoothing out that last bit of drag?

Good call on the lapping compound. Did the same thing on an old Springfield frame that was just a bit too tight. Found that a little bit of Flitz polish on the rails after the 600 grit really made it shine. That last bit of drag is always the toughest part to work out.

Flitz polish after 600 grit? That's a new one for me, I always just called it good there.
