I was using the wrong size punch for roll pins for a decade.
Had a customer bring in a Ruger 10/22 with a bulged receiver channel last week. My usual 3/32 punch was just a hair too big, and I was forcing it. Watched a video from a guy in Idaho who showed the exact fit with a proper starter punch. How many other small details have I been missing on common jobs?

That "exact fit" detail is huge. It's easy to get stuck in your own way of doing things and miss the simple fix. I've definitely been there with other tools.

Read a blog post once that called it "solution blindness." You get so focused on your complex plan you miss the thing right in front of you.

Man, I've probably been using a butter knife as a screwdriver for years and never noticed.
