Just realized the old cemetery in my neighborhood has graves from a battle no one talks about...

I was walking through the cemetery yesterday and noticed some really old graves with dates from what looks like a local skirmish... I tried to find more info, but there's almost nothing written down about it, which is weird. Anybody have thoughts on why some historical events just fade away like that?

You said some historical events just fade away, but I see it different. Stuff doesn't just vanish. People choose not to pass it on. That local skirmish probably mattered a ton to the families there, but if the winners didn't write the history books, it gets left out. We lose the small stories because keeping them going takes work nobody does. It's less about fading and more about us not bothering to remember.

Like @robertb70 said, my grandma never mentioned the town flood.

Totally see that with family recipes. My great aunt made this amazing pie, but she never wrote it down and now it's just gone. Feels like losing a piece of who we were.
