PSA: My brother told me to wash new air fryer baskets before using them
I skipped it and cooked wings right out of the box. First batch tasted like factory plastic and I had to throw the whole thing away. Has anyone else ruined a meal by ignoring that advice?

Screamed "NOOOOO" out loud when I read this because I literally did the same thing with my air fryer last month. Bought it on a Tuesday, threw in some frozen mozzarella sticks that night without thinking, and they came out smelling like a hot electronics store. I was so mad at myself because my roommate had told me the exact same thing and I was like "nah it'll be fine." Had to eat my sad microwave pizza pockets as punishment while the whole apartment aired out. Now I make it a ritual - first cook is always a cheap frozen pizza just to burn off whatever nasty residue is in there from the factory.

My brother would say 'told you so' so loud the neighbors would hear it lmao. I did the exact same thing with a new toaster oven last year, first bagel bites came out tasting like a melted shower curtain. Now I just accept that any new kitchen gadget has to run through a sacrificial batch of something cheap like frozen tater tots first. The factory grease coating is real and it's nasty.
