Noticed the south valley hardware store now stocks lime mortar

I was picking up some gravel at that place off Isleta and saw a whole pallet of lime mortar mix sitting near the registers. Caught my eye because I've been reading up on old adobe repairs and how modern cement can wreck them. Anyone else spot new materials like that popping up around town?

Oh man, I used to be all about using regular cement for everything, especially for my own projects around the house. Figured it was just stronger and that's what you needed. But I helped a friend repoint his old adobe place last summer and we used lime mortar instead, and it was a total game changer seeing how well it let the wall breathe and move. Really made me rethink the whole one-size-fits-all approach to building materials around here.

You ever repoint a wall that was originally done with mud mortar before? I did on a old gate post out in the North Valley. Lime was the only thing that would stay put because the adobe kept expanding and contracting. Cement would have just shattered that thing inside a year.
