Just saw a guy defend a filler arc like it was his religion
I was scrolling through a MyAnimeList thread yesterday and this one dude wrote three paragraphs explaining why the 20-episode filler arc in Bleach was 'essential worldbuilding.' He literally said skipping it meant you didn't understand the soul reapers. Do people actually believe filler adds real value to a show, or are they just trying to justify the hours they sunk into it?

Read this thing on a crunchyroll blog where a guy claimed the Naruto Mecha Naruto filler was "peak storytelling." Peak storytelling. A robot naruto fighting. People get way too attached to the time they spent watching stuff. It's like they can't admit they sat through a bunch of nothing just because they liked the show. The Bleach bount arc defenders are the worst of them though. That arc was just a bunch of people standing around talking about dolls.

Oh boy, the Mecha Naruto episode is actually a parody, not filler, it's based on a Rock Lee spinoff, so it's a different kind of nonsense. But yeah, people definitely get weirdly defensive about the hours they invested.
