Found out the average person has 4,000 bad thoughts a year, and it changed my view
I read a study from the University of California that said the average person has about 4,000 negative thoughts every year. I found it in an article about mental habits. That number hit me because I had a terrible morning where everything went wrong, and I felt like my brain was just stuck on a bad track. Knowing it's a common thing, not just me, made the rest of the day feel less heavy. Has anyone else found a stat that made a rough day easier to handle?

Actually that study gets misquoted a lot, it was about thoughts in general not just bad ones. Still a helpful idea though.

Yeah the "thoughts in general" part reminds me of my buddy who tried that whole "name it to tame it" thing on his grocery list. Said it just made him hungry.

My therapist said the grocery list trick works for anxiety too.
