That stuff can poison the ground insects birds need to feed their chicks. Anyone know a safer way to handle grubs without hurting the robins?

Serious question, has anyone else had a squirrel problem ruin their feeder setup?

I used to just hang a basic tube feeder from a branch in my maple tree here in Springfield. It was fine for a month, then a single gray squirrel figured out how to climb down the line and chew through the plastic base. Now I have a pole system with a 4-foot baffle and a weight-sensitive perch that closes off the ports. It cost me over $60, but the cardinals and chickadees can finally eat in peace. What's the most squirrel-proof thing you've actually had work for more than a season?

PSA: A client in Boulder asked me to build a cabinet with no visible fasteners at all

He was very clear, saying 'I don't want to see a single screw or nail, not even a pin.' I ended up using a complex system of sliding dovetails and hidden dados, which added about 15 hours to the build. Has anyone else had a request that pushed your joinery skills to the limit?

So I used a non-contact voltage tester on a dead circuit and it still beeped

I was troubleshooting a dead outlet in a kitchen reno in Spokane, and after shutting off the breaker I checked with my trusty pen tester. It gave a faint beep over the hot wire, which made no sense. I grabbed my actual multimeter and got a solid 0 volts, proving the circuit was dead. The phantom signal was just induced voltage from a live wire running parallel in the same stud bay. Anyone else run into this and have a good way to explain it to homeowners without freaking them out?

That time I misread the plans and built a 9-foot wall instead of 8

It was on a big house job in Springfield, and I was rushing to finish the garden wall before the rain hit. I set the line at 9 feet without double checking the architect's drawing. The client came out and just stared at it, saying 'That looks way too tall for the patio.' I had to tear down the whole top course and redo it, losing a whole morning. Anyone else ever messed up a measurement that bad on a simple job?

I read a study from the University of California that said the average person has about 4,000 negative thoughts every year. I found it in an article about mental habits. That number hit me because I had a terrible morning where everything went wrong, and I felt like my brain was just stuck on a bad track. Knowing it's a common thing, not just me, made the rest of the day feel less heavy. Has anyone else found a stat that made a rough day easier to handle?
