Honestly, I thought the whole 'go for a walk' advice was useless until my car broke down in the rain.

Oh come on, I gotta disagree a little bit! Sure, getting soaked isn't fun (nobody likes squishy socks), but there's something about being forced to walk in the rain that makes you feel alive. Like, you're out there with no choice so you just accept it and it's weirdly freeing. Lucas_grant83 I think you get what I mean, that spontaneous step count is way more satisfying than a planned workout. Plus, walking in the rain makes the dry clothes and hot coffee when you get home feel like the greatest luxury in the world. Maybe it's just me, but I'd take a wet walk over being stuck in a stuffy car any day.

My old Honda died in a downpour last year... I got more steps in that afternoon than the whole month before.

Walking in a downpour sounds miserable. My shoes would be soaked through in minutes. I can't imagine having to do that for any real distance. You must have been completely drenched by the time you got anywhere.
