Keeping my butter cold in the summer heat made my pie crust flakier

I pop it in the freezer for five minutes before cutting it in.

What recipe did your friend use, @the_seth? I had the same thing happen once with a crust that was way too dry. What finally worked for me was making sure to really chill the dough before rolling it, and I use ice water and keep the butter super cold. Adding just a tiny spoonful of vinegar to the dough seems to help it stay tender too, so it rolls out without cracking. Was she trying to make a regular butter crust or something else?
