My stand mixer gave up mid-batch on Sunday

I was mixing a double batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. About 3 minutes in, the motor started smoking. Then a loud clunk and it just stopped. I had to finish mixing by hand with a wooden spoon. Took me 45 extra minutes. Has anyone else had a KitchenAid die on them suddenly like that?

Had a friend who's KitchenAid did the same thing mid-batch of sugar cookies. She said the smell of burning plastic was awful and she never got it working again.

Sorry but mine has survived way worse with zero issues.
