Found a trick for stubborn flange bolts on an old steam drum

Three years ago on a shutdown at the old Riverbend plant, we had to pull the manway cover on a 1950s steam drum. The flange bolts were totally seized. My foreman, Joe, told me to try a mix of 50% acetone and 50% ATF fluid as a penetrant. We let it soak overnight, hit the bolt heads with a torch for a quick heat cycle the next morning, and they all broke free without shearing. I've kept a spray bottle of that mix in my box ever since. What's your go-to for frozen bolts on vintage gear?

Man, that feeling when a frozen bolt finally lets go is the best. Been there with old tractor manifold studs that looked like part of the block. That acetone and ATF trick is solid gold for the real stubborn ones. Sometimes you just need the right cocktail and a little patience before the heat goes on. Saved a lot of headaches with that same mix on some crusty plumbing fittings last winter.

Oh man, my buddy once had to soak a brake line for three whole days before it budged.
