Our book club's 'no spoiler' rule got me called out for being too vague

Someone said my discussion questions were 'so safe they were boring' after our talk on 'The Silent Patient'. I started adding one truly divisive prompt per meeting, like asking if the main character was justified. Has anyone else had to shake up how they lead a chat?
