Unpopular opinion: I quit checking book reviews before our club meets
I used to read lots of reviews online before our book club discussions. It made me form opinions too early. I stopped this habit a few weeks ago. Now I come to debates with my own fresh thoughts. Our talks are more open and fun as a result.

You're missing out on deeper discussions by ignoring reviews.

Honestly, @jessew83, I get your point, but sometimes going in blind lets you spot stuff reviews never talk about. Tbh, I tried a book everyone panned for its slow start, and that buildup made the ending hit way harder for me. Ngl, when you avoid reviews, you notice small details that get lost in the big talking points. Like with that indie game, all the chat was about the graphics, but I found the characters way more deep. Skipping the review cycle can actually lead you to your own weird connections that no one else is making.
