That time I misread the plans and built a 9-foot wall instead of 8

It was on a big house job in Springfield, and I was rushing to finish the garden wall before the rain hit. I set the line at 9 feet without double checking the architect's drawing. The client came out and just stared at it, saying 'That looks way too tall for the patio.' I had to tear down the whole top course and redo it, losing a whole morning. Anyone else ever messed up a measurement that bad on a simple job?

That story hits home. It's funny how one little slip like that can domino into a whole day wasted. Not just on a job either. Saw a guy at the hardware store last week measure plywood right there at the counter, still came up short. People rush through small things, thinking speed matters more than accuracy. But the little misses stack up. Build your whole morning on a wrong number and you're stuck fixing the foundation later.

Ever mark your tape with a sharpie for the right height? Saves my butt now.

Doesn't that rub off after a while? I just remember the number, marking it seems like extra work.
