A chat with a hostel owner in Lisbon made me question my whole packing strategy

Honestly, he told me he sees so many people paying 50 euro baggage fees for stuff they never wear. Ngl, it hit different because I'm that person with the 'just in case' jacket. Anyone else cut their bag weight and actually saved money?

Used to pack for every possible weather event. Hearing that hostel owner's story was a real wake up call. Now I force myself to pack half of what I first lay out. The checked bag fee savings alone paid for a couple nice dinners last trip. It's liberating to realize you really don't need most of that stuff.

How many times have you packed a raincoat for a desert trip? I used to bring three pairs of shoes for a weekend. Now I just wear my sneakers and pack flip flops. My back feels better and I'm not digging through a pile of "just in case" clothes I never wore. It's so much easier.
